17 million users data have been stolen by hackers but the payment information remains safe. This is the second time in the last two years that the security has been breached. Zomato saided in the blog that the passwords have been hashed meaning they will be difficult to access though such troves of data do eventually get cracked. So it is better to reset your passwords in the zomato account’s and if you use the same password for all the platforms please change it or use a password manager.
Zomato has told about the attack in a Blog Post that all the payment data has been stored in highly secure PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) compliant vault. It also stated that it has no evidence who the hacker is and what other products of Zomato has infected. in the blog it also added that all the passwords have been reset and logged out of the Zomato App and website.
It reassured that all the accounts are safe and payment information was saved separately so there is no concern about it , it also said that “Over the next couple of days, we’ll be actively working to improve our security systems – we’ll be further enhancing security measures for all user information stored within our database, and will also add a layer of authorization for internal teams having access to this data to avoid any human breach.”
Anything can be hacked so be careful about what information you provide online.
