A recent video went viral of a young girl being attacked by a sea lion which grabbed her dress and pulled her into the water and later being rescued by a man who dramatically jumped into the water and pulled her out from Canadian harbor.
This incident took place at the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf in Richmond, British Columbia, The sea lion was stealthily sticking his head in and out of the water as it approached the crowd who was cheering and was feeding the sea lion.
In the video you can see the girl playing with the animal but moments later when turned back whooosh, animal just grabbed her dress and forcefully dragged her into the water , the crowd who was cheering the animal before were scared and everyone started shouting “OH My GOD” repeatedly.
In an instant, a fully dressed man courageously dives into the water, grabs the girl and the two are seen climbing back onto the dock. The girl is then seen being quickly taken away by her family.
After the Incident Andrew Trites, a professor at Marine Mammal Research Unit at the University of British Columbia said, “As a rule, sea lions don’t attack,They are fearful and keep their distance from people unless they’ve been habitually conditioned to expect food, People don’t understand that this is not a tamed animal you might see at a circus or in a movie, these are wild animals who are hungry,And if they are habitually trained to get food, they will come close and want, All I saw was an animal that was calm, curious and hungry.”
In the video we saw that the people were feeding it and taunting which is a big NO.
