A self thought rocket scientist is planning to launch himself into outer space with a home made steam rocket this saturday.
“Mad” Mike Hughes, a 61-year-old limo driver, told the press that he’ll be lifting off over the California ghost town of Amboy, traveling about a mile at 500 mph, reaching 1,800 feet in altitude and then exiting via parachute.
He is unable to launch from the public land because he has not got the necessary permissions. So that is the reason he postponed the plan to some private property in Amboy.
What is making to the headlines is his attitude towards science ” I don’t believe in science,” Hughes told. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.”
This is not the first time he attempting something this crazy, he has already done it before, In 2014, he flew a manned rocket more than 1,000 feet over Winkelman, Arizona.
He was also awarded a 2002 Guinness World Record for the longest ramp jump in a limousine.
The main sponsor in this project is reportedly a group called Research Flat Earth. The words clearly painted on the rocket in large letters across the bright red rocket’s side as “RESEARCH FLAT EARTH”
According to Hughes the launch will take place on Saturday and he states that it is not available for thr public but it would be live on Internet.
