Ever wondered who invented your favorite food items?
We all think a chef or a food company employee might be experimenting with a mixture of various ingredients to give you the end product.
A pinch of this, a dash of that, and voila! Finally, after days or even months of hard work, a new food is created.
But some food items are invented by complete accident and yet they taste so good and is our favorite food.
Here are five food items which are a complete accident.
It was invented in 1853 by George Crum, he used to work at Moon’s Lake House near Saratoga Springs.
He was a very dedicated chef and always wanted to fulfill his customer’s need no matter what.
One day a loyal customer has ordered for fried potatoes but was not satisfied by its thickness so he send them back to the kitchen to be reamde but thinner.
On his request the cook fulfilled his second order. Unfortunately, the second batch was not to the customer’s standards. This happened one or two times, each batch not being thin enough for the customer’s liking.
Tired of complaints George took a potato and sliced it as this as he can and fried them and also added a pinch of salt to make it delicious. And finally he succeeded. The customer loved them, and this new food was named the potato chip.
It was invented by John Pemberton, an wounded veteran was addicted to morphine. To overcome his morphine addiction he invented coca cola. He wanted a replacement for the morphine alleviate his addiction. He experimented many times until he devised a formula with small amounts of cocaine and kola nut.
To this day, Coca-Cola is a well-known soda brand that is sold throughout the US. You can get this drink at the movie theater, at a festival, at the store to take home with you, or anywhere else you can possibly think of!
It was invented by Frank Epperson in 1905, this food item is something every one has tasted. But can you believe that it was an complete accident ?
Frank was 11 years old when he invented these ice pops. He had received a soda making machine and was excited to start making soda. In this process he accidentally left the sugary mixture outside overnight.
The night was bitterly cold. By the next morning, the stick he had used to stir the soda had frozen into the mixture.
The young inventor proceeded to lick the soda blend off the stick. He called it the “Epsicle,” naming it after himself. Then he started to sell his invention to neighbors and friends in his area. They all enjoyed the sweet treat. In 1924, he patented his invention and renamed it as “Popsicle.”
Wondering how this delicious treat is created by accident, yes it was. It was invented in 1930 by Ruth Wakefield.
She and her husband owned a lodge called Toll House Inn, One day she was cooking chocolate cookies to her guests at the lodge and discovered that she ran out of baker’s chocolate, having no time to get the chocolate from the store she chopped some Nestle chocolate and put it on the cookie batter.
She thought that the Nestle chocolate would spread out completely and make it a chocolate cookie in the oven. Instead she invented the choclate chip cookie. This one little mistake created greatness in America’s food history.
There are many tale’s when it comes to the invention of sandwich. In the 1700s, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, discovered that two slices of bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and mustard inside tasted delicious.
There are many versions to why and how the sandwich was made.
One tale is that Montagu was very much addicted to gambling. He could possibly not leave from an intense card game. So he often requested his meat to be brought to him in between two thin slices of bread so that his wouldn’t get messy and he can continue with the game.
Another version of the story is that Montagu sat at his desk for hours, trying to create a utensil-free meal that could fill up his stomach and still be easy to eat. Eventually, he came up with the sandwich.
