On Sunday, India thrashed hosts Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the fifth and final ODI and the series with a clean sweep of 5-0. Jasprit Bumrah, who won the ‘Man of the Series’ award for being the leading wicket taker was gifted a utility vehicle. MS Dhoni could not resist the temptation of taking the car for a spin and soon took the car for a victory lap around the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The entire team joined Dhoni for the victory lap. A few sat in the front seat with Dhoni while a few sat at the back including Rohit Sharma, Bumrah, and Ajinkya Rahane.
The youngsters Axar Patel, Manish Pandey, Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal made themselves comfortable either standing or sitting at the top of the car with the trophy.
Dhoni’s love for bikes is a well-known fact. The former India captain did a similar thing in 2011 when he took his ‘Man of the Series’ award he won for his performance against the visiting England side in the ODIs, a motorbike, for a spin around Eden Gardens with teammates Praveen Kumar and Suresh Raina in tow.
During the series, Dhoni also became the first man in One-day International cricket to complete 100 stumpings. He achieved the feat when he dislodged Akila Dananjaya’s bails to complete his century of stumpings.
Dhoni surpassed the previous record held by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who retired from international cricket in 2015. Sangakkara took 404 matches to reach 99 stumpings, while Dhoni achieved the feat in his 301st ODI.
The Indian team will soon be hosting Australia and Kohli and the Indian Team will be looking to maintain their winning streak.
