Is that Christian Bale?
Everybody was left wondering the same after the actor unveiled his new avatar for his latest film. The 43-year-old is almost unrecognisable after gaining weight to play former US Vice President Dick Cheney in an upcoming movie. According to Variety, he credits his transformation to ‘eating a lot of pies.’
The film, titled Backseat, is slated for a 2018 release and also stars Amy Adams as his wife, Steve Carell as former Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld and Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush.

This is not the first time Christian has gone to extremes to transform his body for a movie role. He dropped almost 30kg for The Machinist in 2004 by eating only an apple and a can of tuna a day. Then immediately after that he bulked up for his role in Batman begins in 2005.
Christian Bale lost 30 kg for his role in The Machinist.
For his role in The Fighter in 2010 he lost weight again, then gained again for a dad bod in 2013’s American Hustle.
“I’ve never had a single director ask me to do any of this stuff,” he told Uproxx.
“Everyone’s kind of gone, ‘Well, we can do it with a bunch of makeup and some prosthetics’ And, then they discover I’m really doing it myself and they go, ‘Really? Are you O.K. doing that? I’ve never really had anyone say, ‘You have to get to this place.’ It’s always been me saying, ‘I have to get to this place.’”
