5 Interesting Facts About Pablo Escobar’s Wealth.

Pablo Escobar as we all know is the most notorious drug lord known to the world. Born and raised in Colombia, he was one of the wealthiest and feared criminals to have ever lived. He was the head of the Medellin Cartel. He was known as Don Pablo, El Padrino (the godfather) and El Zar de la cocaina ( The Tsar of cocaine).

His cartel used to supply almost 80% of cocaine in the US, they believed four out of every five lines snorted is Escobar’s cocaine. He was the Robin hood for the people of Medellin.

Here are some interesting facts about Pablo Escobar wealth.

They Spent $2500 On Rubber Bands

Their cartel used to spend almost 2500 dollars to just buy rubber bands. His cartel was bringing almost $420 million per week, which estimated to be about $22 billion every year. That was a lot of money to account for, his brother Roberto Escobar took care of the finances.

He made to the Forbes 100 Richest people seven times in a row. He was called the Robin Hood because he built many schools, hospitals and colleges in Medellin. He always used to help people who are in need of cash. He was also a huge football fan and funded his home team Medellin Atletico Nacional Soccer and attended many of it’s matches. Because of all the good deeds he appeared to be a heroic figure for a lot of people and almost 20000 gathered at the outside of cemetery after his death in 1993.

He Doesn’t Care If He Looses Billion’s

Escobar was making so much money that he did not care what was happening to the money. All the money was taken care by his brother Roberto Escobar, he once said in Pablo biography that “Pablo was earning so much money that year we would write of 10% of cash because the rats would eat it in the storage or it would be damaged by water or lost.” That was some expensive dinner for the rats.

Escobar as I have mentioned earlier, trusted his brother with the finances, but soon all the trust was lost. There were five entities which brought the Medellin Cartel down the Cali Cartel, Los Pepes( people persecuted by Pablo Escobar ), both Colombian and the US government and his own brother Roberto Escobar. Escobar’s son Sebastin Marroquin wrote in his book ‘ my father : Pablo Escobar ” My uncle Roberto Escobar, official informant of the DEA, actively contributed to deliver him to the enemies.”

He had a Mini Zoo

   

With money in your hand’s you can buy anything it is limitless. Pablo had a thing for exotic pets including, hippos, giraffe, ostriches and even elephants. His personal zoo was located at his lavish colonial  estate known as the Hacienda Napoles, which also had a private airport, a bullring and a kart racing track all set in 5000 acres.

After his death, the cost of running the zoo was too much and many of the exotic creatures were re located.  24 of his hippos escaped to the nearby river surrounding the central Colombian  hacienda. They were also featured in the National Geographic documentary titled Cocaine Hippos.

 

He Once Set Fire To $2 Million To Keep His Daughter Warm.

   

This is one of the stories where we get to know that Pablo Escobar was a family guy.  His son Sebastian Marroquin, told that when his family was on a run from the federal agents, Escobar would regularly blindfold them, put them in car and drive to safe houses. Escobar or any other drug lord from any cartel had their greatest paranoia which is ‘Extradition’. Spending time in American jail.

According to Sebastian, when they were living in one of their hideouts in the Medellin mountain side, his younger sister Manuela developed hyporthermia. Escobar took two stacks of cash containing $2 million and made a bonfire with it to keep her warm.

 

The Money Is Still Buried Out Their Some Where.

   

On December 2,1993 after 16 months on the run, Pablo Escobar died in a shoot out on a rooftop with member of National Police of Colombia. The government were only be able to recover $100 million worth of these stashed treasures, including pure gold bullion, barrels full of cash, jewels and machine guns.

According to DEA agents more than $1.3 billion of cash is hidden on the Colombian soil., with only Pablo Escobar’s cartel members and the deceased drug lord himself knowing of its exact whereabouts. Sonar and digging technology have been used to locate the cash, but there is still a whole world of wealth out there.
