The human body is one crazy thing.
There are many interesting facts about the human body, but not all the facts you hear are true. Many people advice a lot of things to us like you need to get 8 hours sleep a day, eat your vegetable and exercise, but not all the advice is true.
Below, you’ll find a list of 5 of the most common health cliches out there. None of them are true.
If you accidentally swallow a gum they say it takes 7 years for it to digest, If your seven years isn’t up yet, you may be relieved to learn that this “fact” is complete nonsense.
The origin of the myth is still unknown but the actual truth about the chewing gum is it is indigestible. The Food and Drug Administration defines gum as a “nonnutritive masticatory substance.” which means It’s not food.
But still it not suggested that you swallow, even if you have swallowed what actually happens is the excess sweetener gets digested but the bulk of the gum is an elastomer that gets moved through your digestive tract without being broken down. Then the gum comes out the other end via the excretory system and is usually unscathed.
As if puberty, high school, and those teenage years aren’t hard enough, many of us grew up learning that our chocolate intake had a causal relationship with breakouts.
Having chocolate was the only good thing in adolescence, but does having it breaks your skin? No this old wives tale is completely false. However, eating foods high in fat and sugar can increase your body’s natural sebum production, which makes your skin oilier. Furthermore, those unhealthy foods lead to higher levels of skin inflammation.
There is no food item that can stop your teenage pimples.
The facts that carrots improve eyesight comes with a twisted history of the war propaganda. Fact is carrot is rich with beta carotene an in active retinol, when digested that is transformed into Vitamin A, which is good for your eyesight but that does not improve your eyesight.
The British war propaganda that it improves the night vision is completely false. The British Ministry Of Information spread the false news that the Royal Officers were having a large quantity of carrots which helped them in shooting down the German pilots at night time.
Actually the British Officers were using novel technology at that time, airborne interception radar. But the German side bought the fact that the Royal Officers were fueled by high octane carrots.
Do we have only five senses? yes only according to the Greek philosopher Aristotle who was the first to discern the five discrete senses of the human body. You probably learned them in elementary school: sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste.
But these aren’t the only senses.
What is a “sense”? Well, it’s something with a sensor that can perceive a given stimulus. Every sense is activated by a unique phenomenon.
In fact, the sense of touch is actually much more complex than just a single sensation. Many neurologists break down “touch” into divergent sensations, including perceptions of pressure, temperature, and pain.
The total senses which a human body has is 33 senses including blood pressure and balance.
Atleast once in our lifetime we have heard about this that shaving your beard is waste because it will grow back faster and thicker than before.
This is absolutely false. One of the first contemporary studies on the issue took place in 1928. The participating men all shaved in the same manner with the same brand of shaving cream. Then their subsequent new hairs were analyzed for increased rates of growth.
A lot of this myth comes down to perception. As our hair grows back, we may be influenced by our preexisting biases. Also, when you wax or shave off hair, it’s like chopping down a tree and leaving the stump. You’re left with slightly wider and more visible hair, contributing to perceived gains on the part of your stubble.
The growth of your beard faster depends on the individual underlying harmonal changes.
